However, non-violent protests did not necessarily lead to a lack of violence
Civil rights groups deliberatly provoked the authorities into violent reaction, such as at Birmingham, Alabama 1963. Such reaction when filmed on national television an dreported by national press =used as pressure the fed gov into action to protect VR protestprs and implement change.
