LPN in nursing home often has a management role (under RN supervision)

RN provides supervision (by law)
Usually work closely together in acute care facilities in care of patients
LPN gives care and reports to RN any problems, changes in patient condition, need for new orders and goes to RN with questions

Prioritizing time management for an assigned group of patients
Treatments, medications
Care coordinated to meet patient needs
Unexpected changes/emergencies
Managing breaks, assignments, patient care of those under your direction
Determining when to report variations from expected norm
Priorities
Think ABCs and Maslow
Life threatening—STAT action High risk to patient if no action Lower risk, but could cause patient harm if no action Health maintenance: exercise, diet Self-actualization
Medication Priorities
STAT “Now” Pre-op PRN—pain vs. MOM Routine timed meds
Ask: “Is there a specific time or a specific order to do this?”
