A

Begin with assessment of learner needs and characteristics

  • motivation: need to, want to, or may already know?
  • ability: health, literacy, sensory deficits, psychomotor skills, pain, anxiety, growth and development stage, memory
  • leading questions, open ended so learner can set goals/priorities
  • consider the environment
  • identify resources and refer prn
  • build on previous experience and knowledge
  • actively involve learner and allow application
