4.1.1.2 Animal and Plant Cells Flashcards
What organelle are found in animal cells?
- Cytoplasm
- Nucleus
- Cell membrane
- Ribosome
- Mitochondria
What organelle are found in plant cells?
- Nucleus
- Cytoplasm
- Cell membrane
- Mitochondria
- Ribosomes
- Chloroplasts
- A permanent vacuole filled with cell sap
What is the cell wall of plant and algae cells made of and what does it do?
- Made of cellulose
- Strengthens the cell
Function of Vacuole:
- Contains cell sap
- Helps to support the shape of the cell
- Has a jelly-like texture
Function of Nucleus:
- Controls the activities of the cell
- Contains genetic material (including DNA)
- Cells would die without it as it wouldn’t be able to function
Function of Ribosomes:
- Site of protein synthesis (where proteins are made)
- Cells have to build protein for the rest of the body and we take it in
Function of Cytoplasm:
- Where most of the chemical reactions take place
- Jelly-like texture
Function of Cell Membranes:
Controls what passes in and out of the cell
Function of Mitochondria:
- Where aerobic respiration takes place to release E
- Aerobic respiration uses oxygen
Function of Cell Wall:
- Maintains rigidity of the cell
- Strengthens the cell
- Made of cellulose
Function of Chloroplasts:
Where photosynthesis takes place, using a green pigment called chlorophyll which is found in the chloroplast, which is needed to make food for the plant
What is cell sap?
The solution inside the vacuole stores materials such as sugars, amino acids, waste products and mineral salts
Cell:
- Are the basic units of life
- Are the building blocks of all living organisms
- All living things are made of cells
What re the life processes organisms need to stay alive
- Movement: can change its position
- Respiration: release energy from a ‘food’ source, requires oxygen
- Sensitivity: responds to things
- Growth: gets bigger
- Reproduction: can make copies of themselves
- Excretion: get rid of waste materials
Nutrition: consumes chemical materials as food
