41)Neuromuscular blockers Flashcards
1
Q
Neuromuscular blockers
A
Drugs that interrupt transmission of nerve impulses at skeletal motor end plates
Commonly used during GA
2
Q
Classification
A
Non-depolarising blocking agents
- Long lasting ⇢ Pancuronium
- Intermediate acting ⇢ Vecuronium
- Short acting ⇢ Mivacurium
Depolarising agents
- Suxamethonium
- Decamethonium
3
Q
Pharamcodynamics
A
Non depolarising
- Competitively bind to nicotinic receptors
- Blocks ACh binding
Depolarising
- Depolarises sarcolemma of skeletal muscle fibre
4
Q
Pharmacokinetics
A
Not absorbed in GI tract
Parental administration
Does not cross BBB
Excreted in urine + bile unchanged
5
Q
Clinical use
A
GA in dentistry ⇢ When tooth extraction requires surgical methods
⇣ intensity of muscle spasms in drug-induces seizures
Help patients w/breathing (ventilator)
6
Q
Contradindications
A
DO Not use in pregnancy + breast feeding ⇢ malformations
7
Q
Adverse effects
A
Tachycardia
Circulatory collapse
Allergic reaction
Hyperthermia
Hypotension
