What caused the Depression in Germany?
- America was rich after WW1 by selling goods such as cars and fridges
- Some would buy shares in companies and businesses and borrow money from bank to buy shares
- In October 1929 Wall Street Crash occurred
- Prices dropped and people sold shares
- They couldn’t pay banks back
- Debt collectors took cars and homes
- Firms went out of business and million lost their jobs
What impact did this have on Germany?
- Americans bought items from Germany, Italy and Japan
- The Depression meant they couldn’t afford these anymore
- Foreign factories had to shut down
- Many people in Germany became jobless because of this
- American banks demanded all money lent to Germany back
- Many business couldn’t pay up
- Over 6 million unemployed
