The Fire Code Official will check local weather conditions online at www.weather.gov and at the NOAA website each weekday morning by 8:00a.m. to obtain information on current and projected wind speeds for that day.

The parameters for wind speeds to allow burning is twelve (12) miles per hour or less. The inversion factor must be greater than one thousand (1000) feet to allow for open burning. Ozone quality must be above “Poor” conditions.

Open burning (except for small recreational fires in pits or approved bon fires) will only be allowed between the hours of 8:00a.m. and Dusk. No open burning will be started prior to 8:00a.m.

Fire department personnel who respond to an “open burn” site may extinguish or order the extinguishment of any fire they deem to be a danger or nuisance to the community, or due to a change in weather conditions regardless of permit status.

Each day one of the Fire Prevention Officers or the Fire Marshal will be on call. This is a weekly rotation beginning Thursday at 7:00 a.m. and continuing for two weeks ending that Thursday at 7:00 a.m. The Fire Marshal will provide ECC with a copy of the monthly call sheet approximately 3 days prior to the end of the month.
