The Remote Restraint Device (RRD)
A
Is a non lethal device
- Not intended for use as an intermediate weapon

Use of RRDS
A
Range of 10-20 feet
- Elbow to wrist
- mid-thigh to ankles

As opposed to using a CED an RRD CAN BE

Deployed by multiple officers

Officer shall not with (RRDs)
A
Display unprofessionally
Deploy from a moving vehicle or at a moving vehicle
Deploy from horse back

When to avoid RRDs
A
Handcuffed
Pregnant
Elderly, medically infirm, visibly frail, a young child
Suspect fleeing
Near water to avoid them drowning
Only point when situation warrants

If the anchor does not penetrate skin
A
Dispose of cartridge, tether, anchor in trash at the assigned station

Q
If the anchor DOES penetrate skin
A
Treat as “sharps” dispose in proper receptacles at the officers assigned station and the other contents in a trash receptacle at assigned station
