-it helps to improve the quality of products/service as employees have better skills
-its motivational for staff as it makes them more confident to do their job and they feel the business is interested in developing them

-involves a high degree of supervision from experienced staff members which can be time consuming
-apprenticeships may make mistakes while they are training which may harm the regulation of the company
-apprentices are paid a wage while they are training
-no guarantee of job security once apprenticeship is completed
