3.5.2--> Flashcards
what is AD Hock?
wirless connection method where each computer on the network communicated wirelessly in a p2p fashion and does not use a central wifi router to communicate. this is not good for large size networks.
what is channel bonding in wifi?
combining 2 non-overlapping wifi channels into one. doubles bandwidth.
when a old wifi device is connected to a newer frequency router then what takes place?
many wireless routers are backwards compatable but when an older wifi range is device is connected then the speed of the wifi network is reduced to the older technology speed.
open authentication uses what kind of security for wifi?
mac address filtering, white list are acceptable devices.
how does 802.1x authentication work? wifi
both a user name and password is used for each user and is confirmed by an authentication server for wifi connections.
what is the diff. between WPA2personal and WPA2enterprise?
WPA2-personal: uses AES (Advanced encryption Security) and pre-shared keys for authentication.
*WPA2Enterprise: uses AES for encryption and 802.1x authentication (uses server, username and unique passwords for each device to make connections to wifi).
what kind of server does 802.1x wifi use? enterprise wifi
RADIUS server- must have a server certificate.
what speed does the 802.11b wireless standard use?
11mbps
i need a wireles network that will support 54 mbps and laready have a wifi phones system on the 2.4 ghz what network types w=should i add? (2 types)
- 11a - 54 mbps or more
- 11n - 600mbps
* both work in the 5GHz frequency and will not interfier with the 2.4 ghz range.
how many channels are available for the 802.11a wifi network?
23
how many channels are available for the b and g 802.11 networks?
11
which encryption is used for WPA networks?
TKIP - rotating encryption keys for security
which wifi network versions are on the 2.4ghz range?
802.11b and 802.11g
which wifi network versions are on the 5ghz range?
802.11a and 802.11ac
which wifi version can do both the 2.5 and 5 ghz range?
802.11n
which setting in windows can be selected to turn off the ability of users to configure wireless settings using WCN - Windows Connect Now?
admin>templates>network>windows connect now under user config.> Turn off ability to config. using a USB flash drive -setting
what is the Implicit Deny Mode?
used in a firewall to drop all traffic unless it is in the (ACL) Access Control List as an ok’ed rule. so all potential attacks are dropped.
TCP? used for
TCP: Transfer Control Protocol - internet based traffic
UDP? used for?
UDP: User Datagram Protocol- used for network broadcasts and multicasts traffic.
ICMP? used for?
ICMP: Internet Control Message Protocol - used by ping and traceroute for diagnostic tools/ communicatioon
what is a port?
a number used to keep track of programs running on the host that is also using the same ip address. like port 80- used by HTTP to transmit and receive traffic for web browsers and web servers.
what is IPsec?
IPsec: Internet Protocol security - encryption protocol used to protect network traffic over unsafe public networks.
NLA? is what?
NLA - Network Location Awareness:
