3.2--> Flashcards
what is Dual Stack?
both ipv4 and ipv6 work together on a host
what is Tunneling?
encapsulates an ipv6 inside an inpv4 packet so that ipv6 data can be sent over ipv4 networks.
what is ISATAP?
ISATAP: Intera site automatic addressing protocol:
*provides ipv6 over a private ipv4 network within a site..
what does an ISATAP address look like if the host address is -> 192.168.1.20
FE80:5EFE:192.168.1.20
**the 1st 2 quartets
what is Teredo-Tunneling? when is it used
used to establish tunnel between ipv6 hosts to communicate over ipv4 private or public network. uses NAT-T.
PortProxy is what?
allows ipv4 host to communicate with a ipv6 host. only works with protocols that don’t use the address or port tcp info.
how does an ipv4 comparable address look?
ten octets, last 4 octets have an ipv4 address. formateed as: 0:0:0:0:0:0:(device ip)
what is an AAAA record and what does it do?
AAAA Record: maps a DNS host name to a 128 bit ipv6 address.
what is an A record and what does it do?
A Record: maps a DNS host name to a 32 bit ipv4 address.
PTR Record?
PTR Record: maps an ip address to a host name.
IPV6 addresses used with ISATAP use what prefix? in the address..
ISATAP prefix: FE80::/16
what is Teredo and what is the prefix in the address?
Teredo is also known as NAT-T (Traversal), used to create a tunnel between ipv6 hosts over an ipv4 network.
**Prefix would be the 2001::/32 prefix followed by the ipv4 public address converted to hexadecimal.
what is LLMNR?
LLMNR: used to resolve host names without a dns server. it is a name resolution protocol that is used when the DNS is down.
how does Teredo Tunneling work?
Teredo Tunneling: configured on each host and works through NAT to allows ipv6 hosts to communicate through a tunnel over an ipv4 address.
what does a PTR record do?
PTR Record: maps an ip address to a host name on a DNS server.(reverse look-up records). can be for IPv4 or IPV6
what is APIPA?
APIPA: Automatic private ipv4 addressing: used when a DHCP server is not configured or working on the network. the APIPA- hosts select their own ipv4 addresses within a range.
how does Stateless Autoconfiguration work?
clients automatically generate an interface ID, learn the subnet prefix and default gateway through neighbor discovery protocol. **can not also automatically get the DNS server address, this must be manually entered.
why is the Netsh command used in the command prompt?
netsh: used to manually config network interface info. ip address, default gateway, DNS server address.
diff between classful and classless addresses?
classful: the ip address comes from one of the 3 ip addresses: A,B or C (192.168.0.0/16)
* *ClassLess: not from the ip address classes A-C.
what is the APIPA address range? when is it used by a computer?
used when the DHCP goes down. the range is 169.254.0.0 - 169.254.255.254
