3.4.3 and 3.4.4 Flashcards
ABO blood type
classification system uses presence or absence of certain antigen on red blood cells to categorise blood into type A, B, AB, O
type O
the universal donor, has no antigens against which recipient immune system can react
type AB
the universal recipient, the blood has no antibodies which react to AB antigens
Antigens
any substance cause immune system produce antibodies against it
Antibodies
(immunoglobulin) protective protein produced by immune system in response to the presence of antigen
antibodies are specific to antigens!!
segregation
alleles of each gene separate into different gametes when the individual produces gametes
monohybrid cross
both parents are heterozygous for a single trait
recessive
interaction of an allele in a diploid state
recessive alleles only affect the trait (phenotype) when homozygous
rare
frequency of an allele, describes how many people in a population carry the allele
