3.2 Ecology Study Guide Flashcards
Tropic Levels
Producers
Primary consumers
Secondary consumers
Tertiary consumers
Autotroph vs Heterotroph
Autotroph self feed. Where as, heterotrophs have to eat other animals to get energy.
Herbivores
Herbivores are animals that eat plants.
Omnivores
Omnivores eat plants and meat.
Carnivores
Carnivores eat meat.
Detritivores
Detritivores break down dead things from plants or animals.
Forms of energy can take:
-light energy
-Kinetic energy
-potential energy
-heat energy
-sound energy
-sound energy
-vibration energy
-movement energy
What is the rule of 10 and how does it apply to ecological pyramid models?
Trophic levels can only give 10 percent of it’s energy to the next level.
Why is it considered more efficient to eat at a lower trophic level vs. a higher trophic level?
The lower tropic levels have more energy because there is not as much energy being lost through the transfer.
