Q

urbanisation

A

the growth of towns and cities, increase the risk of hazards as more people would be affected (50% of people live in towns and cities), there are more buildings closer together so if they collapse it would have a domino effect

Q

poverty

A

extremely poor, may force people to live in areas of risk (side of mountains) which has a high land slide risk, houses would be less stable and collapse easier trapping people, no healthcare benefits to recover, harder to evacuate as densely populated

Q

climate change

A

change in the worlds weather patterns, when the weather is warmer the atmosphere has more energy leading to more extreme storms, some parts of the world becomes wetter with flooding more likely, other areas are dryer so droughts are more likely

Q

farming

A

when a river floods it deposits silt and makes land fertile meaning crops grow better however living near rivers at risk of flooding, ash from volcanoes make soil fertile but risk of erruption
