Prioritization Matrix

A

Used to compare alternatives using weighted scores for pre-selected
criteria.

  • Helps you focus on the highest priority issues, not every issue potentially impacting the choice.
  • Helps surface disagreements between team members to aid in their resolution.
  • Encourages consensus at each step in the process, increasing buy-in and the prospect of followthrough.
  • Helps limits misinterpretation of criteria and alternatives.
  • Helps limit “hidden agendas“
  • Helps reduce the chances of selecting one person’s “favorite” alternative

Prioritization Matrix Steps

A
  1. Agree on the objective you are trying to achieve. For the assignment, the objective is provided for you.
  2. Create the list of criteria. For the assignment, the criteria are also provided for you (cost, technical, schedule).
  3. Compare each criterion against the others.
  4. Compare all alternatives relative to each criterion.
  5. Compare each alternative based on all combined criteria and rank the alternatives.
