Legal Executives are qualified lawyers who have passed the Institute of Legal Executives’ Professional Qualification in Law.
How many Legal Executives are there?
Over 20,000.
Where can Legal Executives work?
As assistants in solicitors’ firms or for the Local Government.
Whereabouts are Legal Executives work based?
Principally office based.
What do Legal Executives jobs involve?
More straightforward matters. E.G- Drafting wills, advising on matrimonial problems.
Interview clients, Advise them, draft documents, may “brief” a barrister to provide advice in complex cases or to present the case in court.
What kind of work is it called which Legal Executives do?
“Contentious work”- Personal injury litigation and criminal prosecutions.
“Non-Contentious work”- Wills and conveyancing.
What can Legal Executives do in court?
Advocate, in County Court in a civil case, or a family case that is not defended.
What rights of audience does a Legal Executive have?
Some limited rights of audience.
How can Legal Executives extend their rights of audience?
Complete an Advocacy Course through a Civil Proceedings, Criminal Proceedings or Family Proceedings Certificate.
What does the certificate to extend rights of audience allow the Legal Executives to do?
To be an Advocate in the Magistrates’ Court.
What pay do they take?
An hourly charge therefore contributing to the income of the law firm.
