What must somebody be to be classed as qualified?

A

Aged 18-75, on the electoral register and a resident of the UK, Isle of Man or the Chanel Islands

What must somebody be to be classed as disqualified FOR LIFE?

A

Imprisoned for life, public protection or have received a prison sentence for 5 years or over.

A

Prison sentence of less than 5 years, suspended sentence or those who have a community order.

A

Certain mental health conditions, those who can’t understand english, those who are deaf or have a disability stopping them carrying out the role.

When can jury duty be deferred?

A

It can be deferred for up to 12 months when there is a “good reason”. E.G- Booked holiday, operation, exam.

When can jury duty be excused?

A

Excusal can be given if jury service cannot be undertaken in the next 12 months. “Good reason” is needed. E.G- Disability, full time carer. Can also be given if jury duty has been done already in the past 2 years.
