Crown Court
What do the juries do?
Listen to evidence and submissions. Listen to the facts. Decide a guilty/not guilty verdict.
What do the jury listen to after evidence had been presented?
Summary of the case from the judge, then the law and explains what the jurors have to decide.
What can the judge tell the jury to do to D in 10% of cases?
Acquit the defendant- but can’t tell them to find D guilty
What can the juries do while deliberating?
Write written questions to the judge whilst deliberating
What must the verdict be?
The verdict is preferred to be unanimous. However majority verdict of 11:1 or 10:2 is acceptable after around 2 hours.
