3. Nutrient reccomendations Flashcards
Why nutrient recommendations?
90% type 2 diabetes, 80% CVD, 30% cancer can be prevented by better dietary habits, less smoking, better physical activity
- cover the physiologial requirments for metabolic function
- supports good health and reduce diet associet diseases
What are the nutrient nutrition reccomendations?
guidelines for an optimal intake and combination of food and nutrients
It focuses on quality and whole diet
Purpouse of NNR:
- guidelines for dietary plan
- tool for assessment of dietary intake
- basis for food and nutrition policies
- basis for education
- basis for developinf food products
guidelines on NNR?
based on present knowledge about impact of food on health and risk disease
-requires various data
What is a Cohort study?
study where one or more samples are followed when they have a disease r outcome and they want to determine the initial condition (risk factors) associeated with it
have to be conduct in similar population
beach volley players example
What is a randomized controlled trial?
study that assign randomly, partecipants into an experimental group or a control group (RCT) and then the only difference between the control and the experimental group is the variable that is being study
ex. study on the sunscreen cream
what is the beneficial effect og high intake of plant food?
because they are rich in micronutrients and potential bioactive constitutents
strong scientific evidence that natural fibre conribute to decreased risk of diseases (cancer, diabetes…)
Pro and cons with dietary, eggs, meat
important protein and mineral sources:
- high fat products exchaged with low fat meat and dairy products
- high consumption of meat increases the risk of colorectal cancer, diabetes, obesity ecc
- replace red meat with vegetarian choices or fish egg…
- milk is associated with diabtes stroke..
recommendation to promote health and wellbeing:
- decrease energy density increase micronutrient density
- improve carbohydrate quality
- improve fat quality
- limit red meat
- limit the use of salt
NNR macronutrients:
carbohydrates:quality is very important 45-60%
fat: 25-40% of the energy (cis mono unsaturated 10-20 %, cis polyunsaturated 5-10% )
saturated fat 10%
trans fatty acids as low as possible
moderation of fat very important to prevent obesity
Proteins: 10-20%
Recommendations about the physical activity:
influence growth, development, long term healtg
30 min physical activity every day for adults 60 for children
NNR early nutrition
breastfeeding for 6 months and partial breastfeeding for 6 months after can promote adeguate growth and prevent obesity later in life
NNR salt
