3 Medical Mathematics: Introduction to Statistics (not done) Flashcards
What is Population?
Is an entire group of elements (observations) that have at least one thing in common such as the GPA of all students
What is Statistics?
Is the science of assembling, classifying, tabulating, and analyzing data of a numerical kind so as to present significant information about a given subject
What is a Sample?
Is a small group of elements selected from the total population such as the GPA of a student in one class
What is a Parameter?
A characteristic of a population
What is a Statistic?
A characteristic of a sample
What is Data?
Is a collection of numbers (scores or measurements)
What is Qualitative data?
is non-numeric data in narrative form
What is Quantitative data?
Is numeric data.
What is Measurement?
Assigning numbers to observations according to rules
What is a Variable?
A measured characteristic that can have various values or levels
What is Discrete variables?
Have only certain values (whole numbers)
What is Continuous variables?
Can have any value either whole numbers or whole numbers and fractions (accuracy of measurement)
What is Descriptive statistics?
Is a way of summarizing data such as when one number represents a group of numbers. Tables and graphs also can be used to summarize data
SUMMARIZING DATA
- Tabular representation of data
- Graphical representation of data
- Numerical representation of data
Tabular Representation of Data
- Frequency distribution
- Cumulative frequency distribution
- Grouped frequency distribution
- Cumulative grouped frequency distribution
