On-the-job training

A

Involves employees improving their knowledge and skills within the workplace.
Can occur while performing roles and duties

Employees:
- Allows them to interact and become familiar with stuff related to their role.

Examples:
- job shadowing an experienced employee
- hiring external traininer to give on-site demos
- having employees roate between different jobs
- being coached by existing employees
- having senior stadd act as mentor

On-the-job Adds and Diffs

A

Add:
- Often more cost effective
- Training is conducted by other employees, building collaborative culture
- Employees undertaking training can still be productive
- Allows employees to learn about their daily role, helping the transfer of skills

Diss:
- if training is conducted by another employee, they may not have effective training skills
- Using employee may also increase the chance of poor habits being passed on
- May be disruptions to normal work being completed as training is being conducted
- There may be workplace distractions which can interrupt training, decreasing the effectiveness

Off-the-job training

A

Involves employees improving their knowledge and skills in a location external to the business.
Training is often provided by specialist trainers who am to improve specific skills.

Employee:
- Take time to learn from trainers’ vast knowledge and experience. They should return with skills they can improve

Examples:
- attending conferences
- performing sims or workshops
- attaining specif qualifications from TAFE, Uni or other education courses
- Online training courses outside traditional work hours

Add:
- Better quality of the training experience
- Allows employees to learn from vast knowledge and experience
- Free from workplace distractions
- Employee may receive official qualification

Diff:
- Often more expensive for business
- Business may not have full control over whats presented
- May be harder to transfer skills learned into daily life
- If employee receive quali, they may leave business
