Is a motivational theory that suggests people have five fundamental needs, and their sequential attainment of each need acts as a source of motivation

Physiological Needs
Are the basic requirements for human survival, such as food, water, and shelter
Employees:
- Use wages to purchase essential items
Managers:
- paying a living wage
Safety and Security Needs
Are the desires for protection from dangerous or threatening environments
Employees:
- avoiding physical harm in workplace
- stable income and job security
Mangers:
- Ensures a business abides by all OH&S regulations.
- Long-term employment contracts and introduce anti-discrimination policies
Social Needs
Are the desires for a sense of belonging and friendship among groups, both inside and outside the workplace
Employees:
- developing interpersonal relationships
Managers:
- encourage team-based work
- celebrating birthdays
- organising collaborative events to commemorate important milestones
Esteem Needs
Are an individual’s desires to feel important, valuable, and respected
Employees:
- achieving promotions
- prestigious job titles
- financial bonuses
Manager:
- acknowledging strong performance with monetary rewards
- increasing job responsibilities
- promoting them
Self-actualisation Needs
Are the desires for an employee to reach their full potential through creativity and persona growth
Employees:
- accomplish goals and objectives
Managers:
- providing challenging work
- opportunities for skill and knowledge development
- offering work that expresses creativity
