2a.2 - Plant Structure & Photosynthesis Flashcards
What is the Mesophyll tissue?
Where photosynthesis happens
What do the Xylem and the Phloem do?
Transport things like water, minerals ions and sucrose around the plant
What is the epidermal tissue?
The tissue surrounding the plant
What is the equation for photosynthesis?
CO2 + H2O -> glucose + O2
Were is the mesophyll tissue found on the leaf?
Middle section of cells
Were is the epidermis tissue found on the leaf?
The top and bottom layer of cells
Where does the leaf get the energy for photosynthesis from?
The sun from the top of the leaf
Where does the water come from for the leaf to photosynthesise?
Via the xylem
Where does the CO2 come from for the leaf to photosynthesise?
It diffuses into the leaf through the bottom
What is a limiting factor of photosynthesis?
Something that stops photosynthesis from happening any faster
What could the limiting factor of photosynthesis be?
- Light
- Temperature
- Amount of CO2
How do plants use glucose?
- Respiration
- Making cell walls
- Making proteins
- Stored in seeds
- Stored as starch
How do plants use glucose for respiration?
Releases energy which allows them to convert the rest of the glucose into various other useful substances, which can be used.
How do plants use glucose for making cell walls?
Converted to cellulose for making strong cell walls
How do plants use glucose to be stored in seeds?
Turned into lipids for storing in seeds
