2.9 Flashcards
1
Q
What are talus scree slopes?
A
- accumulation of material at bottom of cliff
- scree sits at a 34-40º slope angle
- larger material at bottom of slope
- slope angle increases with sediment size
2
Q
What are block slides?
A
- debris slides along failure line/bedding plane
- debris is in large sizes
3
Q
What are mudflows?
A
- water is channelled locally to saturate soil
- rills and lobes created
- lobes are the front edge of deposition at bottom of slope
- rills are the eroded gully left due to movement
4
Q
What is soil creep?
A
- Soil is repeatedly saturated and dehydrated on a slope
- is pulled downslope by gravity
- small ridges called teracettes are made
5
Q
How are terraces created?
A
- Rotational slumping
- vegetation at top remains intact, between bare scar faces
