What is a raised beach?

A

Beach which has been raised above sea level by isostatic rebound or eustatic sea level change

  • can show progression of plate uplift
  • usually have larger sediment left, smaller taken away by marine processes when at sea level

  • ice pushes land down
  • when ice melts, land rises

A
  • mantle is soft + viscous
  • results in other parts of crust reacting to isostatic changes
  • seesaw effect
