2.7 - Climate Change Affecting Trends Flashcards
Precipitation Trends (Given CC)
Increases only seen in Sahel, Asia, Greenland & Antarctica
Evaporation Trends (Given CC)
Increases meaning increased transpiration and less water reaches the soil
Water Store Trends (Given CC)
Terrestrial water storage decreases as more water evaporates and is released into the atmosphere
Effect On Water Flows (Given CC)
Extreme heat minimises rainfall and water flow, drying shallower areas and causing potential death/migration of organisms.
Effect On Snow/Glacier Masses (Given CC)
Decreases, negatively effecting indigenous people as it creates food shortages.
Effect On Lakes (Given CC)
More dependant on local characteristics
Permafrost (Given CC)
Melting and thawing increases, affecting water quality, security and health.
Precipitation (As CC Continues)
Rain will become more intense, the tropics will get hotter and see more rain whilst South Africa and Europe will get less.
However, Europe sees less water stored as snow and therefore will see more rain.
Runoff (As CC Continues)
Temp increases run-off, due to more intense rainfalll and less infiltration.
More droughts in-between due to increased evapotranspiration
Evaporation (As CC Continues)
More over oceans however more clouds so less sun intensity.
More transpiration from vegetation and less water in soil.
Soil Moisture & GW (As CC Continues)
More dependant on human extraction
Permafrost (As CC Continues)
Permafrost will degrade with higher temperatures
