26.Antigens (immune response inducers). Haptens. Flashcards
1
Q
Antigens
A
Binds to antibodies that are on the surface of pathogens. They irritate the immune system and cause an immune response
2
Q
Properties of antigens
A
- Foreign orgin - initiated own genome
- Antigeniticity - strength to induce a stronger or weaker immune response
- Immunogenecity - ability to induce immunity
- Specificity - active site (paratope) being specific
3
Q
Haptens
A
- discovered by landsteiner
- small molecules that cant trigger an immune response on their own
- attach to larger proteins (carriers) to innitiate an immune response
