15. RNA maturation. Flashcards
1
Q
rRNA Maturation
A
- rRNA matures and synthesizes in nucleolus
- rRNA + proteins = ribosomes
2
Q
tRNA Maturation
A
- are transcribed as a common primary transcript and undergo processing consisting of two additional steps:
CCA Addition:
- The CCA sequence is added post-transcriptionally by mRNA-nucleotidyl-transferase.
Formation of Double-Stranded Regions:
- Double-stranded regions are formed by RNA ligase using energy from ATP.
2
Q
Splicing
A
- Gene Structure: Most genes contain protein-coding regions (exons) and non-protein-coding regions (introns).
- Definition: The process of removing introns and joining exons is called splicing.
- Splicing is performed after transcription.
