Phase 1
While patient is still in hospital, education and group meetings
Phase 1.5
After discharge home, low-level exercise
Phase 2
After 2-6 weeks of recovery, supervised exercise 3 times per week
Phase 3
Maintenance phase
Left-sided HF
Increased fluid in pulmonary vessels
Right-sided HF
Increased venous congestion, swelling in hands/legs/abdomen, tricuspid valve regurgitation
HF Class I
Without limitation of physical activity
HF Class II
With slight limitation of physical activity; ordinary activity leads to fatigue, palpitations, dyspnea, angina pain
HF Class III
Marked limitations of physical activity; less than ordinary activity leads to symptoms
HF Class IV
Discomfort with all activity; symptoms at rest
