Motivation
refers to the desire, effort and passion to achieve something. It is th willingness to complete a task or job with enthuasim
Differnet motivational theories
Taylor’s theory of motivation: he believes that employees are primaryl motivated by money and that productivity could be improved by setting output and effiecny targets related tp pay
Maslow theory of motivation: focuses on the psychological (emotional and mental) needs of workers as he believed that people are motivated more by money. Maslow demosntres this through a hierarchy of 5 levels of needs
1) Psychological needs (or Basic needs ) are the needs that people need to surivie
2) security needs are the demands necessary to make people feel safe and stable (ex job security, sick pay)
3) Social needs refer to the human desired to be accepted as part of a friendship group of family
4) Esteem needs: refer to the desires for recognition and self respect
5) self actualisation: is the highest level in maslow hierarchy of needs. It refers to the forces that drive people to become the best they can be
Herzberg theory of motivation: Herberg believes that there are hygiene factors (which are necessary to to not cause dismotivation) and motivators (which can increase employee motivation) which can cause job satisfaction and job dissatisfaction
Adams equity theory:
That people should be compensated based on the the effort and work they output. So people who work harder and ahcive more should be compsntead.
Eacuh worker should receive remuneration that reflects their effort
Pink theory of motivation:
Pink describes purpose as the desire to do things in service of something larger than ourselves.
Pink proposes there are three things to strive for in order to promote intrinsic motivation:
Pink describes mastery as the desire to continually improve at something that matters.
Autonomy: Self sufficient to direct our own loves. Organizations can provide autonomy with employees in several ways such as giving employee the space,time, and resource sot work on projects and problems in a creative way
Mastery: Self improvement to learn and create new things. Pink describes mastery as the desire to continually improve at something that matters.
Purpose: Self esteem and drive to do better by ourselves . Employees feel a sense of purpose to their work
Finanial rewards and non financial rewards
Finanical rewards:
salary,
wages,
commison (workers get pbaed on a portion (percentage) of sales or output by a work.
Non finnaical rewards:
job enrichment
gives workers more challenging jobs with more responsibilities
Kob enlearmgnet refers to broadinignthe number of tasks that an employee perofmrs
Empowerment: refers to delovping the potienal of woerkrs or teams to achieve the best they can
Purpose: Employees are driven through purpose of their wor
