2.4 (Lab 4) - Cells Flashcards
simple squamous epithelia
- inner linings of vessels
(blood + lymphatic vessels are ALWAYS lined with it - endothelium) - outer surfaces of internal organs
simple columnar epithelia
- prevalent in GI
- often have absorptive + secretory FXNs
stratified squamous epithelia
- found in areas exposed to abrasive forces
- non-keratinzed = covering surfaces of oral cavity, vagina, etc.
- keratinized = covering dry surfaces of the skin
golden rule of histology?
every free or lumenal surface in the body is lined by an epithelium
endothelium
simple squamous epithelium around a blood or lymphatic vessel
mesothelium
- simple squamous epithelium
- lines both the inner and outer spaces surrounding the gut (peritoneum), heart (pericardium), lungs (pleura)
mesentery
- connective tissue structure suspending the intestines in the peritoneal cavity
omentum
structure with similar anatomical relationship to the mesentery - extending to parts of the duodenum
enterocyte
- absorptive cell
- most prevalent cell in duodenal epithelium
- has microvilli on surface
(entero=intestine)
goblet cell
- mucus-secreting cell
- second most prevalent cell in duodenal epithelium
pectinate line
the point of transition within the anal canal between simple columnar epithelium to stratified squamous nonkeratinized epithelium
