Why was Transatlantic trade used by European nations?
It represented a principal way to become stronger to them.
Describe the logistics of the triangular trade routes:
- first a ship would leave port in New England carrying rum across the Atlantic to west Africa, then the rum would be traded for hundreds of captive africans
- next, the ship would set out on the horrendous Middle passage. those africans who survived the voyage would be traded in the west indies for sugar cane
- third, completing the last side of the triangle, the ship returned to a new England port where the sugar would be sold to be made into rum.
What is Mercantilism in a nutshell.
the economic theory that a country’s wealthy was determined by how much more it explored than it imported
Even though mercantilism was the normal practice of this time period, how did England enforce these regulations?
England was normally very lax in regulations to the colonies even though mercantilism was supposed to be strict enforcement. this was called salutary neglect
What was King James II determined to do with the colonies?
To increase royal control over the colonies by combining them into larger administrative units and doing away with representative assemblies.
What was the result of this lust for control?
It led to the glorious revolution
