2.2 - Flop Strategies Flashcards
If we are OOP, and the IP player rarely bets when we check, what does this say about our ability to lead on the flop?
We’re not going to get penalized as much when playing leads and those leads are going to generate reasonable value.
If we are IP, what should we observe about the OOP’s lead strategy, and how does that affect our betting strategy?
Pay attention to the OOP player’s lead frequency. If the OOP player never leads then we should CB less when IP.
What are the flop betting guidelines either position?
Bet the nuts when they are not blocking calling hands, or strong hands that are vulnerable to board texture (more dynamic boards).
Bet multi-component semi-bluffs (generate fold equity by blocking villain’s good draws).
Check monsters with robust equity and blockers, middle of our range, and pure air with no equity.
What is the 3B aggressor strategy for a Dynamic Unpaired board?
Always bet A-high boards
Make large bets w/ hands that are ok getting it in
Small bets w/ top of range hands & weak bet-folds
What is the 3B aggressor strategy for a Dry Unpaired board?
NO checking
Bet small and frequently on A boards
Bet pot w high frequency on non A boards - we want to end the hand
Very low checking frequency
What is the 3B aggressor strategy for a Straight board?
Bet high boards.
Check middle/low boards.
What is the 3B aggressor strategy for a Paired board?
Bet high and low pair boards.
Passive on middle pair boards.
What is the 3B aggressor strategy for a Monotone board?
Bet high boards.
Passive on middle boards.
What is the 3B defender strategy for a Dynamic Unpaired board?
A-high good for 3 bettor so OOP never leads
What is the 3B defender strategy for a Dry Unpaired board?
X only here. There will be so few hands doing well that it’s best to simply this category to pure check.
What is the OOP Caller strategy for a Straight board?
Best to simplify high straights to pure check. We start leading on some mid-straights.
What is the OOP Caller strategy for a Paired board?
The only pairs we play leads are high paired boards.
What is the OOP Caller strategy for a Monotone board?
Leads become viable for OOP on many monotone boards because IP’s AA hand-class is less relevant
What is OOP’s 3BP initial strategy?
Check strongest hands that block villain.
Bet strong hands, and semi-bluffs (with blockers, we want folds)
As the aggressor, pot/fold lots of stuff that will turn enough equity to follow through a fair amount.
What is IP’s 3BP initial strategy?
(OOP B)
Shove/call/fold, no small raises
Jam hands that want to shove and deny equity
Call monsters and some backdoor equity
Find enough aggression to restrain the aggressor.
(OOP X)
If OOP never leads, then check most of range, but mix in a few strong and strong air bets.
Else, bet a lot of strong hands and mix in lots of good/decent air. It’s easy to play too passively.
