22. Enterprise Network Architecture Flashcards
What are the 3 layers of the hierarchical LAN design?
- Access
- Distribution
- Core (backbone)
What are the architectures options?
- Two-tier
- Three-tier
- L2 access layer
- L3 access layer
- Simplified campus design
- SD-Access
What is the two-tier design?
Collapsed core design. Distribution/core in one
What is the three-tier design?
Seperate distribution/core
When is a three-tier design recommended?
When more than 2 distribution switches are required
What is the L2 access layer?
Access layer switches are L2
Distribution is L3
What is the L3 access layer?
Everything is layer 3
What are the advantages of L3 access layer?
- No FHRP
- No STP
- Increased uplink utilization
- Easier troubleshooting
- Fster convergence
What are the disadvantage of L3 access layer?
Does not support spanning VLANs accross multiple access switches
What is the Simplified campus design?
Relies on switch clustering with VirtualSwitchingSystem and StackWise
How does a Simplified campus design work?
Switches are combined and loopfree
