Lower socio economic status are less likely to participate in sport than those with higher socio economic status.

Rugby union is more likely to be middle class but increasing lower class professionalism

Education was compulsory, PE included but it has become less important.
Because of huge growth of qualifications that can be achieved.

Gender recognition act 2004 provide transgender people with legal recognition
Stricter laws regarding behaviour e.g crowd violence, players cheating drug taking
Threat of terrorism decreased, less hooliganism.
Equality act of 2010 changes gender rules to avoid discrimination e.g golf clubs

Increased equality, women provided with better opportunities.

So some sports become exclusive because they are expensive
Global recession affected disposable income so little money spent on sport, reduction in spectators.

Rapid, cheap Intercontinental travel for many, so more people go to international fixtures.
Improvements in public transport e.g railways allow for more spectators

Sport is fairer, harsher punishments for match fixing and use of PEDs.
Violence on the field is more likely to be dealt with legal proceedings
Harsher punishments fines and bans for dangerous behaviour e.g dangerous tackles in football
Referees have duty of care, e.g rugby referees being sued for not maintaining safety in scrum.
Better security in stadia to ensure safety of spectators.

Social mobility are the changes in wealth, education and occupation in a persons lifetime

Global market place athletes show skills
Allows performers to perform in differ t countries which enables them to train in different conditions. So a greater exposure of people to sport
