A
Malignancy Surgery Trauma Immobility Pregnancy Previous thromboembolism

What are the symptoms of a PE?
A
Acute dyspnoea Pleuritic Chest pain Haemoptysis Syncope Leg pain and swelling?

What are the signs of a PE?
A
Hypotension, tachycardia, gallop rhythm,
Raised JVP, right ventricular heave, pleural rub
tachypnoea, cyanosis, AF

What investigations should be done for a suspected PE?
A
U&E's, FBC's, Baseline clotting ECG CXR decreased vascular markings,Wedge shaped area ABG Serum d dimer (low sensitivity) CTPA/ V/Q scan

What is the management of a pulmonary embolism?
A
Oxygen if hypoxic
Morphne 5-10mg IV with anti-emetic
IV acess and start LMWH

What should treatment be if a patient with a PE is not
heamodynamically unstable?
A
Fluid bolus
Persistnetly low BP consider vasopressor or noradrenaline
