2.14 / 2.10 National And Internaitonal Standards In Prodct Design Flashcards
Note that for some products there are standards that do not exists, also note that not all standards have to be followed by companies but if can be essential when working with other companies. Also note that from time to time some standards are replaced with new ones which may be similar or different completely
What are standards?
Procedures that are needed to be followed
Notes for ISO;
They made the iso standardised metric followed by mostly everyone in the world except Canada and America
Companies can out out of following ISO standards - the overall aim with these standards is to improve safety and productivity
Remember that having the ce mark means the a product complies with European conformity and the European standards that must be followed in the EU
Battery directive notes:
Use of WEEE and RoHS it deals with the restriction of hazardous substances and safe disposal of batteries
States that the limit for batteries and capacitors is 0.005 percent of mercury and also restricts the amount of cadmium in capacitors to 0.002 per cent
Crossed out wheelie bin means that it can’t be disposed in normal trash
What is significant about the mobius loop?
It is a sign to show that a product can be recycled with three arrows representing either a percentage on a polymer code or a SPI society of Plastic industry used to state the polymer resin so that they can be recycled in the correct way
Packaging directive information:
Aimed to reduce and promote recycling of packing as well as limit production due to waste from the commercial side to the household
Recent amendment states that the packing must at least be 60 per cent recovered or incinerated at waste incinerations
All packing must be marked with specific materials used to assist in identification and classification
EC energy label
A compulsory system
A to G from most efficient to least efficient allows customer to get a good comparison of products
The new label uses pictograms to depict which ones are the best to use
Helps with assisting customers for purchasing goods and which products are the best
ECO labelling
Manufacturers are able to provide potential customers with a great level of information based on the idea that they contain the label with them
The EU eco labelling is given to products ad companies with follow the standards to a high excellence - throughout their lifecycle, raw material and distribution + disposal
What does the EU energy star cover?
Covers the energy used by a computer component via their power usage when idle and in sleep mode and then the data is collaborated and and allows customers to make informed decision on products as a result
