2015 Stuff Flashcards
What’s a nucleus
Controls all the activities of the cell
What’s a cell membrane
Controls the passages of substances into and out of the cell
What are ribosomes
Where protein synthesis takes place
What are mitochondria
Structures in the cytoplasm where oxygen is used and most of the energy is released during respiration
What’s a permanent vacuoles
Space in the cytoplasm filled with cell sap
What’s a cell wall
Made of cellulose that strengthens the cell and gives it support
What are chloroplasts
Are found in all green parts of plants, they contain chlorophyll and make food by photosynthesis
What’s aerobic respiration
Glucose + oxygen -> carbon dioxide plus water plus energy
What’s anaerobic respiration
Glucose -> ethanol plus carbon dioxide plus little energy
What’s diffusion
Where a net of particles spreads from the high concentration to a Laos concentration
What’s a balanced diet
It provides need to survive including plenty of energy
What’s an adaptation
Special features that makes an organism particularly well suited to the environment where it lives
What’s metabolism
The series of chemical reactions or life processes in the body
What are the two types of cholesterol
HDL :)
LDL :(
What is good about cholesterol
Essential for cell membranes and many hormones
What’s bad about cholesterol
Sticks to the lining of your arteries and leads to blood clots, heart disease and high blood pressure. It builds up fat can become obese
What foods contain cholesterol
Butter, cheese, crisps or burgers
What are anti-bodies
A blood protein produced in response to a specific antigen.
Put these in order of smallest to largest
Virus, glucose molecule, plant cell, animal cell, cell membrane and bacteria
Glucose molecule, cell membrane, virus, bacteria, animal cell and plant cell
