Whenever members have a patient that has already been placed into an ambulance who is subsequently found to meet Reference No. 814 or a base hospital physician pronounces death, or scene circumstances necessitate the removal of the deceased patient from the scene due to scene safety issues - the following procedures shall be followed:

A
  1. Move RA to safe location as necessary.
  2. Request an EMS Battalion Captain be added to the incident (nonemergency).
  3. Telephone the Coroner Watch Commander to notify him in advance of the patient’s death and impending transport.
  4. Ensure that all personal property or physical evidence found with the patient accompanies the body to the Coroner’s Office whenever possible. Otherwise, ensure items are secured by law enforcement.
  5. Neither member shall ride in the patient compartment with the decedent.
  6. Enter “TSP” on the Mobile Data Computer, using Hospital Code 436.
  7. Transport NON-EMERGENCY to the Los Angeles County Department of the Coroner, Decedent Intake Area
  8. EMS Capt to follow RA
  9. Contact the on-duty Senior Forensic Attendant to deliver the body
  10. Receive a copy of the inventoried property receipt and document the Coroner’s receipt number
