2. Caregiver-Infant Interactions AO3 Flashcards
Name two strengths of caregiver-infant interaction
- Uses well-controlled procedures
2. Babies don’t know that they are being observed
Explain a strength of using well controlled studies
Interactions usually filmed from different angles so that research can be viewed and analysed later - very fine details can be recorded - increases validity
Explain the strength of babies not knowing they’re being studied
No demand characteristics - good validity
Name a limitation of caregiver- infant interaction
It’s hard to know what is happening when observing infants - observations are mainly just hand movements or changes in expressions
Why is difficult understanding of observations an issue
Difficult to be sure based on observations what is taking place from infants perspective- e.g. Is imitation of adult conscious and deliberate
What does difficulty in understanding interactions mean
We can’t be certain that behaviours seen in mother-infant interactions have a special meaning
