2-2 respiration bones & cartilages Flashcards
vertebral column
7 cervical
12 thoracic
5 lumbar
5 sacral (fused)
3/4 coocygeal (fused)
cervical vertebrae
C1 = atlas –> holds up the skull
C2 = axis –> allows rotation of head on C1
thoracic vertebrae
costal facets for the articulation of the heads of ribs
where ribs attach
sternum
largest part in the middle = body
manubirum = fist shaped part on top
xiphoid process = tiny little part on the bottom; point of attachment for muscles
ribcage
2 pts of attachment = costal facets & spine
head attaches to spine (?)
neck attaches head & body of bone
angle - part of the rib bone that curves
costal groove - non cranial nerves pass through
rib articulation
1-7: true ribs = direct connection to sternum
8-10: false ribs = does not connect directly to sternum; attached to costal facet which is connected to sternum (?)
11-12: floating ribs = not attached to sternum at all
pectoral girdle
clavicle = collarbone; connects shoulder to sternum
humerus = bone of upper arm
scapula = shoulder bone
pelvic girdle
sacrum = 5 vertebre fused into a single bone
coxal bone = ilium, ischium, pubis
iliac crest = top part of ilium
