190302 A (A+B) Flashcards
Are skid steer machines only equipped with wheel assemblies in a fixed straight ahead position?
No, there are also tracked assemblies.
What is the difference between a depth and a surface filter?
A Depth filter is paper spin on. Surface types are a fine mesh.
What is the final drive assembly comprised of on a skid steer?
Chain drive sprocket design.
What is the most common cause of problems with hydraulic systems on a skid steer.
Contaminated oil.
When working on a skid steer, what is a safety measure that must be followed?
Anytime the cab is lifted, place security arms under the arms.
What are 4 types of steering used on Off-Road Equipment?
Rear Wheel
Four Wheel Crab
Four Wheel Co-Ordinated
Skid Steer
What is the smallest size of contamination you can see?
40 Microns
What is the size of the contamination that gets filtered by a hydraulic oil filter?
1 Micron
What is one difference between regular hydraulic oil and fire resistant oil?
Fire resistant oil holds contamination in suspension, requiring magnetic filtration.
What type of steering system allows for maximum floatation of the tires?
Crab Steering
On Co-Ordinated or Circle Steering what is a benefit while turning?
The tires form a concentric circle and follow each other.
What could cause slow turning radius cycle times?
Low Engine RPM, Other implements being used at the same time,
What is a follower valve for?
This is used to cause the steering wheel input stop turning of the wheels once the desired amount of radius has been achieved.
What does a pressure control valve do in the full time hydraulic steering system?
Limits system pressure, regulates pressure in a secondary system, causes functions to go on a certain sequence.
What is a common use for a flow divider in a steering circuit?
To direct pump pressure to the shuttle valve, blocking the emergency pump pressure off.
What is another name for a steering directional control valve? Why?
Reversing valve, because it allows oil through to act upon a dual acting cylinder but also return oil from the depressurized side. This valve will also do the opposite.
What are double acting cylinders?
A Cylinder that can have oil act on either end of it.
What engages a neutralizer valve?
The stop screw with a rounded head.
What turns a greater degrees on a motor grader, the front wheels or articulation?
Front wheels turn more.
When turning a wheel loader, do the wheels track inside, outside or on the same path?
The same track.
When attaching the tie rod end to the arm, what is one important step that must be followed?
There should be no gap showing at the end of the threads on the tie rod end.
How are joysticks connected to the swash plates on a hydrostatic steer machine?
Mechanical, Air, Hydraulic or Electronic.
What is a very important component of the hydraulic system of a skid steer system due to compact design?
The oil cooler.
What kind of pump is the hydraulic charge pump on a hydrostatic steer system?
Gear pump.
What kind of filtration does a hydraulic reservoir screen filter out?
100 Micron
