Croup treatment:

A

Mild cases -> Managed in primary care, advice and reassurance
Moderate cases -> Oral dexamethasone /Nebulised steroids (reduces airway inflammation)
Severe cases -> Corticosteroids, adrenaline nebulizer, oxygen

Acute seizure management:

A

Either buccal Midazolam (after 5 mins) or IV Lorazepam (after 5 mins) -> Repeat once after 10 mins if still fitting -> IV Phenytoin and call anaesthetics

Managing severe sepsis in children:

A
  • Give oxygen
  • IV/IO access and bloods and cultures
  • IV fluid bolus 10ml/kg of 0.9% NaCl – give as quickly as possible
  • IV Cefotaxime/Ceftriaxone
