from notrh to south
ARCTIC CORDILLERA ECOZONE
___vast polar ice fields and spectacular
alpine glacier scenery, extremely cold, desert-like, with high winds and lacking in soil cover
___Lichens and mosses
NORTHERN ARCTIC ECOZONE
–non-mountainous, the coldest and driest landscapes, high winds and shallow soils
–Lichen and herbs, Shrubs Vegetative cover is greater on wetter sites at coastal lowlands
SOUTHERN ARCTIC ECOZONE
–most extensive vegetative cover and highest
species diversity of the three arctic ecozones
–taiga forest, treeless arctic tundra, Dwarf shrubs

–upland, southerly areas are usually
better drained, warmer, and support mixed
wood forests

TAIGA SHIELD ECOZONE
–several lakes, wetlands and open

BOREAL SHIELD ECOZONE
–the largest ecozone,
-80% forested, conifer stands,wider distribution of broad leaf trees, needle-leaf trees, Lichens, shrubs, and forbs
ATLANTIC MARITIME ECOZONE
–forests of conifers and deciduous, Shrubs
MIXEDWOOD PLAINS ECOZONE
–mixed coniferous-deciduous
BOREAL PLAINS ECOZONE
–most numerous are broadleaf trees
PRAIRIES ECOZONE
–open grasslands
