16. How is body temperature maintained? Flashcards

1
Q

What are the three zones for body temperature and how are they defined?

A
  1. Homeothermic zone = physiological boundaries. Stay same temperature by physiological processes (e.g. sweating). Maintaining 37*C
    1. Thermoneutral zone (TNZ): Metabolic rate does not change (not non-shivering thermogenesis or whatever)
    1. Comfort zone: feeling nice (mood e.g.)

Q

The lines bordering the UCT’s and LCT’s at different metabolic rates = ?

A

Lines of passive heat loss. heat gain/loss without sweating or shivering. By radiation, conduction, convection.

Q

What do you reach when lines of passive heat loss are extrapolated?

A

When the line is extrapolated, you reach skin temperature.
