What are the 3 degradation types of wood
Wet rot, Dry rot, insect attack
What is the main differences between dry rot and wet rot of wood
Wet:
Soft, swollen and fibrous crumbling wood
Fungus that grows on timber with a high moisture content e.g. 50%
Dry:
Dry, cracked and powdery crumbling wood
Specific type of fungus that grows on timber with a moisture content of 20-30%
What is Paints properties & indoor/outdoor, Appearance inc opacity & finishes, and Application
Makes surfaces tougher and more resistant to moisture

Applies a colour(Gloss, satin, matt and metallic)
Apply with a brush, roller or spray
What are the 2 stages in insect attack

Flight holes (The beetle forms and eats out of the wood via a flight hole)
What are the 2 steps to surface preperation
Sand the wood with progressively finer glasspaper
Wipe the surface with a cloth to remove any dust before applying a finish
