15/16 Spinal Cord & Brainstem Lesion Flashcards
dorsal root lesion
diminished sensation/reflex from that dermatome
fasciculus gracilis lesion
ipsi loss of proprioception/ 2- pt lower limb

fasciculus cuneatus lesion
ipsi loss of proprioception/ 2- pt upper limb
LCST lesion
ipsi spastic paralysis

LSTT (lateral spinothalamic tract) lesion
contralat loss of pain/temp 2 dermatomes below lesion

LRST ( lateral reticulospinal tract) lesion
autonomic fxn loss
anterior white commissure lesion
bilateral pain/temp anesthesia
pic = syringomyelia
same symp in central cord syndrome

anterior horn lesion
ipsi LMN paralysis
ALS lesion (spinal cord)
LMN/UMN paralysis
(presents 2 segments below lesion)

what is the representation of spinal shock

brown-sequard syndrome

CST brainstem lesion

medial lemniscus lesion

spinal lemniscus lesion

CST lesion at medulla @ olive
contralat
spastic hemiplegia
medial lemniscus lesion at medulla @ olive
contralat
loss of proprio/2 point hemianesthesia
spinal lemniscus lesion at medulla at olive
contralat
hemianalgesia (body)
descending tract of V lesion at medulla at olive
ipsilat
hemianalgesia face
vestibular nuclei at medulla @ olive
ipsilat
vestibular sign
(nystagmus, vertigo, nausea, etc)
inferior cerebellar peduncle lesion at medulla @ olive
ipsilat
cerebellar signs
(+ Romberg, ataxia, dysmetria, etc)
wallenberg syndrome
lateral medullary syndrome
= involves descending tract of CN V & spinal lemniscus
alternating hemianalgesia
-dysphonia, dysphagia

lesion of
lateral lemniscus,
inferior colliculus,
brachium of the inferior colliculus
&/or medial genigulate body..
bilateral diminution of hearing w/ a more prominent hearing loss in the contralat ear
internuclear ophthalmoplegia =
- horizontal gaze = normal
but not able to ADduct side of lesion
& nystagmus in opposite eye
left homonymous heminopia =
contralat
=lesion of lateral geniculate body (optic tract), optic radiation or visual cortex
