Suffolk’s Affinity

A

Corruption, factionalism, extravagance. Suffolk’s faction were the king’s favourites.

Example: Paston Letters- Lord Moleyns takes Paston Manor, gives it back but isn’t charged with any crime. Suffolk gets him let off because Moleyns is one of his men.

Suffolk dies in 1449. He is exiled for his own protection, Parliament shocked by losses in France and wanted him executed. HVI exiled him for 5yrs. Ship intercepted on way to France and beheaded.

York V Somerset

A

Tension between the two, York wanted his loans repaid - Somerset had already been paid back. Somerset had angered York with his losses in France. Somerset replaced York as lieutenant general of France, York stuck as deputy of Ireland- felt excluded from court.

Cade’s Rebellion

A

Jack Cade and his followers, wanted to get rid of ‘evil advisors’, thought York should he chief advisor.
Bishop of Salisbury is killed. Nobility unsure whether York is involved- now don’t trust him
