14. Respiration And Exercise Flashcards

1
Q

The importance of respiration:

A

~ It releases energy from the glucose molecules.
~ organisms need the energy for chemical reactions to build larger molecules, to keep warm and for movement.

Everything you need to know for ANAEROBIC Respiration:

A

In Anaerobic Respiration, the Glucose is not completely broken down.

Anaerobic respiration in yeast cells is called FERMENTATION

Q

Exercise and Respiration:

A

During exercise, the body demands more energy so the rate of Respiration must increase.

Lactic acid can build up in the muscles which creates an Oxygen debt. This causes the muscles to hurt and stop so it needs to got rid of quickly.

Q

What is metabolism?

A

Metabolism is the sum of all the chemical reactions in a cell or in the body.

These reactions are controlled by enzymes and many need a transfer of energy.

The energy is transferred by Respiration and used to make new molecules.
