14. Bony Pelvis and Pelvic Wall Flashcards
Where do the os coxae articulate with one another
Anteriorly- pubic symphysis
Posteriorly- sacroiliac joints
What structure in the os coxae is the union of the three segments
Acetabulum
What structure divides the pelvis major (false pelvis) from the pelvis minor (true pelvis)
Pelvic brim
What makes up the lateral pelvic wall
- Part of the hip bone below the pelvic inlet (brim)
- Obturator internus and its covering fascia and obturator fascia
- Sacrotuberous ligament
- Sacrospinous ligamnet
What muscles make up the levator ani and pelvic diaphragm
Levator ani- iliococcygeus, puborectalis and pubococcygeus
Pelvic diaphragm- levator ani and coccygeus
The piriformis and obturator internus attach to the greater trochanter. What is their path to get there
Piriformis- exits through greater sciatic foramen
Obturator Internus- exits through lesser sciatic foramen
What are the three layers that make up pelvic fascia
- Diaphragmatic fascia
- Visceral fascia
- Parietal fascia
What are some types of Incontinence
Overflow- urethral blockage so bladder does not empty properly
Stress- relaxed pelvic floor and increased abdominal pressure
Urge- bladder over sensitivity from infection or neurologic disorders
What are some examples of causes of incontinence in males
Stress- after prostate removed
Urge- overactive bladder
Overflow- blocked urethra due to BPH
What muscle can be torn/damaged in childbirth
Pubococcygeus and puborectalis
When someone is in anatomical position what aspects of the pelvis are in the same vertical plane
- R/L Anterior Superior Iliac Spines
- Anterior Aspect of the Pubic Symphysis
